Tailypo-Inspired Fakemon by Cabriola Tailypo-Inspired Fakemon by Cabriola
My entry for :iconfakemoncompany:’s 2011 Folklore Contest.

Well, I love creating fakemon and I love all things scary, so I decided to give this contest a shot. :D

Designs were drawn traditionally (for once). Scanned in and digitally lined + coloured using SAI.

Folklore: Tailypo
Origin: North America

Story - [link]
Information - [link]

Felusk (Fee-lusque)
Name Origin: Feline + dusk
Type: Dark
Species: Missing
Gender Ratio: 50% male, 50% female
Height: 1'5"
Weight: 10lbs
Evolves into: Demunger at Level 30 (the 3 in 30 representing the dogs the creature in the folklore ate)
Pokedex Entry: Lost and lonesome, the little creature commonly wanders forests in search of it's missing tail. Although believed to be harmless, it is rumoured to bring bad luck to whomever’s path it crosses.
Design: Based primarily off of both the creature from Tailypo and a black kitten. The glowing eyes, again, represent the creature from the story and this trait continues down it’s entire evolutionary line. Though it says that the creature’s eyes are ‘red and bloodshot’; I ended up giving it white eyes since it suited it’s type and it’s design better, in the end.

Demunger (Dee-mun-gerr)
Name Origin: Demon + Hunger
Type: Dark
Species: Glutton
Gender Ratio: 50% male, 50% female
Height: 4'11"
Weight: 200lbs
Evolves into: Taireapeth at Level 50 (representing the halfway line between life and death; which these Pokemon are technically stuck in, being ghosts)
Pokedex Entry: This large Pokemon's gastric system is built into a second mouth, with which it consumes both small and large prey unlucky enough to reach it's line of sight. Because of this, this Pokemon's first mouth remains immobile due to a lack of use and it's second mouth usually remains open when it is hungry.
Design: Well, the dogs in the folklore disappeared so I'm assuming they were eaten. Ergo, very chubby mon. I had the idea of making it's stomach a mouth to both emphasise the creature's 'gluttonous' trait and to be an added visionary to the tailypo creature's seemingly bottomless appetite.

Taireapeth (Tay-reep-uth)
Name Origin: Tail + Reaper + Death
Type: Ghost/Dark
Species: Vengeance
Gender Ratio: 50% male, 50% female
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 50lbs
Evolves from: Demunger at Level 50 (representing the halfway line between life and death; which these Pokemon are technically stuck in, being ghosts)
Pokedex Entry: Twisted and warped by wrath and glutton, this Pokemon is very rarely seen in the wild but has sometimes been sighted floating alone-around midnight-in areas all over the world. It's tail, missing from birth, has now been recovered and is it's prized possession as well as a valuable source of balance and energy.
Design: It's unknown what the creature did with it's tail in the end (in most versions); I thought it would make sense-somehow-for it to tape the tail back on. :XD: I got the idea that the creature would be very much mentally and physically broken from it's pursuit for vengeance; so I decided to add a bit of tragedy into my own designs by transforming this creature from this adorable little lost kitten, to a shell of it's former self-mangled and emotionally twisted by rage and greed, still very much lonely and now feared by all who have read up about it. My own little made-up ending to the folklore, really. Aren't I mean? 8>

Added Info:

The creatures are dark in colour to emphasise that they are 'fading' into darkness, both because a part of them is dying/dead and because they have been hurt (having had their tails taken away and eaten). They're also dark because, in one version I've heard, I've always remembered that one description about the creature being 'dark', probably due to it being in the shadows when seen by the main victim in the story. Also got the image of them being cat-like both from one version of the story, and also from this inspirational artwork I once found through Google Images.

Felusk, Demunger & Taireapeth belong to me.
Tailypo belongs to somebody from North American ancestry?
Pokemon belongs to Nintendo + Gamefreak.

Ah, thank you! :D

I had a lot of fun making them all as creepy as possible, within boundaries of course.
